Sleeping in Atlanta Airport: Overnight in the Terminal, Minute Suites and the Hotels That Beat Them
Atlanta’s airport never closes, and on any given night several hundred people are asleep in it: crews on split shifts, passengers whose last connection was cancelled by an evening thunderstorm, and travellers with a 6 am flight who decided a hotel was not worth it. It can be done, and this guide explains how, but ATL is also one of the easiest airports in the country to leave for a real bed and come back from, because the SkyTrain and four hotel shuttles run all night. Read the terminal section first, then the Minute Suites section, then decide.
The rules in practice
ATL does not publish a policy on sleeping and does not evict passengers who have a boarding pass. Airport police and cleaners work through the night and may ask to see a boarding pass or ask you to move from an area being cleaned, but reports of anyone being told to leave are rare. Airside is better than landside: it is quieter, the seating is more varied and you are already through security for the morning. The catch is that the checkpoints close for a few hours after the last departures and reopen around 4 am, so a passenger who lands late and leaves the secure area, or who arrives from a hotel at 2 am, waits in the Domestic Terminal atrium until they do. Connecting passengers who stay airside avoid the problem.
Where to sleep
Concourse F, the International Terminal concourse, is the consistent favourite: it has couches and padded benches, fewer overnight flights than the domestic concourses and better light control. Concourse E next door has a Minute Suites with showers and a long, quieter mezzanine. On the domestic concourses look for rows without armrests, usually near the far gates of A, B and D, and avoid the Plane Train station areas where the doors and announcements run all night. Landside, the Domestic Terminal atrium between the North and South halls has tables and chairs, is fully lit and is cleaned with floor machines between about 1 and 4 am; the food court closes and only a few outlets stay open. Bring an eye mask, earplugs, a layer against the air conditioning and a lock for your bag. Free Wi-Fi covers the whole airport and most seating has power outlets nearby, although the older concourses have fewer of them.
Food and services overnight
A handful of outlets stay open 24 hours or close to it, typically a McDonald’s on Concourse A, Starbucks on B and F and a Burger King on C, with vending machines throughout; nothing landside is reliable after midnight. The Delta Sky Clubs close between 9 pm and midnight (F is the latest, at midnight) and the Centurion Lounge and The Club ATL are shut overnight, so lounge access does not solve an overnight stay. Showers are available at Minute Suites in Concourse E and at The Club ATL on Concourse F during its hours; see our lounges guide.
Minute Suites
Minute Suites rents private rooms inside security at three places in ATL: near gate B24 on Concourse B, in the atrium by the escalators on Concourse E, and near gate F6 on Concourse F. Each suite has a daybed sofa with a pull-out trundle, a desk, a smart TV, Wi-Fi, charging points and a sound-masking system, with pillows and blankets on request; only the Concourse E location has showers, which are booked separately. Rooms are sold by the hour from one hour (about $42 an hour in 2026, $84 for two) and as an Overnight Stay of eight consecutive hours between 9 pm and 8 am at about $155, with arrival by midnight; Priority Pass members get one hour free at any of the three. Book online or walk up, and cancel more than three hours ahead (twelve for overnight) for a refund. It is the only accommodation inside the secure area at ATL and the right call for a four- or five-hour gap between flights, or for an overnight connection when you would rather not clear security again in the morning.
When a hotel is the better bed
The arithmetic changes at about six hours. A Minute Suites overnight is $155 for a daybed; for a similar price the Holiday Inn & Suites Atlanta Airport North gives you a full room and a shuttle every 30 minutes all night, the SpringHill Suites Atlanta Airport Gateway a suite with breakfast from 6:30 and a two-minute SkyTrain ride back, and the Sonesta Atlanta Airport South a room with a heated pool. For the earliest flights the SkyTrain hotels are the safest: the train runs every ten minutes through the night, so from the Atlanta Airport Marriott Gateway or the AC Hotel Atlanta Airport Gateway you can be at the checkpoint when it opens at 4 am. Among the shuttle hotels, the Atlanta Airport Marriott, The Westin Atlanta Airport and the Hotel Indigo Atlanta Airport College Park also run all night; the Hilton Atlanta Airport stops at 2 am and restarts at 4. If your night is a cancelled flight rather than a plan, our thunderstorm delays guide explains how to get a room quickly when a thousand other passengers want one too, and the day rooms guide covers the daytime version of the same problem.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Atlanta airport open overnight?
Yes. The terminals and concourses never close and passengers with a boarding pass for the next morning routinely spend the night airside. Security checkpoints may close for a few hours after the last departures and reopen around 4 am, so if you arrive landside after midnight you may have to wait in the atrium until they do.
Where is the best place to sleep in ATL?
Airside, Concourse F (the International Terminal concourse) has couches and is the quietest at night; elsewhere look for rows of seats without armrests, often at the ends of Concourses A, B and D. Landside the Domestic Terminal atrium is bright, busy and cleaned overnight, and is the fallback rather than the plan. Bring an eye mask and earplugs; announcements and floor cleaners continue all night.
What do Minute Suites cost at ATL?
Suites are booked by the hour from one hour, from about $42 an hour in 2026, with an Overnight Stay rate of about $155 for eight consecutive hours between 9 pm and 8 am (arrive by midnight). Priority Pass members get the first hour free. Locations are near gate B24, in the Concourse E atrium (with showers) and near gate F6, all inside security.
Is a hotel cheaper than Minute Suites overnight?
Often, yes. Eight hours at Minute Suites is about $155 for a small room with a daybed; the Holiday Inn & Suites Atlanta Airport North, the SpringHill Suites Atlanta Airport Gateway or the Sonesta Atlanta Airport South are frequently in the same range with a full bed, a shower and breakfast at some, and the SkyTrain or a 24-hour shuttle gets you back for a 6 am flight.
